About SB899 (California Only)
The following informational service is part of our commitment to providing our stakeholders with important, timely and relevant information regarding the changes occurring in workers’ compensation.

SB899 was signed into law on April 19, 2004. Many of the changes incorporated into SB899 have the potential for substantial savings.

While much of the change is focused on medical/legal issues, there are several things that employers can do to reduce related expenses.

It is important that employers take advantage of these opportunities to maximize the savings. Here are some important things employers can do to keep costs down:

Give employees reporting an injury the Employee’s Claim For Workers’ Compensation Benefits (Form DWC-1) immediately upon knowledge of an injury.

Refer all injured employees to a physician, clinic or hospital in our Medical Provider Network (MPN).

Provide all employees with the pamphlet "Facts About Workers Compensation".

Allow employees to be treated by their personal physician only if they have pre-designated.

Report work related injuries immediately

Offer regular, modified or alternative work to injured employees

Take advantage of State-sponsored Early Return To Work Programs

Place the Workers’ Compensation Posting Notice in a conspicuous location

Maintain documentation/records of the following:
Employers need not be passive when it comes to controlling the cost of workers’ compensation. With SB 899, there are now specific areas where employers have a direct impact on costs. Working together we can provide your employee’s with timely and appropriate benefits and achieve maximum savings and that will help keep premium costs down.
